I just got through seeing the next Trek installment. People, unless you want special effects only for satisfaction, you're going to be confused at best, and PISSED OFF at worst by the end of the picture. The writers and directors didn't follow ANY rules regarding the Star Trek continuum. A romantic relationship between Spock and Uhura??????????? Excuse me?????????? They didn't even KNOW each other at the stardate supposedly in question. The only people applauding after the movie were people age 22 and under, only because they don't know any better. And don't even get me started about how WRONG the Enterprise was designed.

I do believe the way they did this movie, and they mention it in the film, is that the version they did was an alternate universe/dimension and thus a lot of things were different; Kirk not growing up with his father, Vulcan being blown up, all those little 'that isn't right' moments.
Again, not entirely sure about that since I didn't read any of the reviews for the film but in questioning my mother about it, who was born before the first Star Trek even came into production and whom actually toured the set back in the day, said that it must have been an AU.
Yes this film is defiantly for a younger generation that I am sometimes sad to call myself a part of, but all in all the movie was epic.
